Ngima Gelu Sherpa is a visual artist and academic from the Everest region of Nepal. His latest short film, As Day Goes By (2024), made its world premiere at the Uppsala Short Film Festival before going on to screen at the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival and winning Special Jury Mention at the Nepal International Film Festival. His previous film, Kathmandu Monsoon (2022), had world premiere at the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival and was presented at over dozen film festivals across the world, while his earlier short Home (2021) became the first Nepali film to compete in the main competition section of Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, where it also received a Jury Special Mention.

Sherpa holds an MA in Fiction Film Directing and Production from the Kino Eyes: The European Movie Masters program, a joint initiative between Lusofona University, Edinburgh Napier University, and Tallinn University, which he completed on a full Erasmus Plus scholarship. Adaptação (2020), his graduation short film premiered in Reykjavik and later received Audience Award in Greece. Likewise, his debut short film Phulsiri (2016), was awarded best children film award in Nepal.

He is a Global Media Makers Fellow and has participated in industry platforms including Berlinale Talents Lab, Rotterdam Lab, and Locarno Open Doors. He was also part of Nepal delegation team for UK Film Study Tour.

Besides filmmaking, he has mentored aspiring filmmakers and designed university-level program, courses and masterclasses. He is currently developing his debut nonfiction feature Tent City.
